An Issaquah Laundry Room Transformation That Elevates Everyday Living

When the homeowners reached out to me about refreshing their laundry room, it felt like the natural next step in our ongoing design journey together. Over the past seven years, we had collaborated on nearly every major space in their home, from the primary and secondary bathrooms to the kitchen and home office nook. Each project added more personality and purpose, creating a home that truly reflected their lifestyle and design aesthetic.

By the time we turned our attention to the laundry room, the homeowners were ready for a space that felt just as inspiring as the rest of the house. The existing layout offered some functionality from the builder’s original layout with the addition of some upper cabinets they had added, but it lacked character and didn’t make the best use of the room’s full potential. They envisioned a laundry space that was both beautiful and efficient, one that could make even everyday chores feel a bit more enjoyable. To bring that vision to life, I proposed a complete reconfiguration that would enhance storage, improve flow, and give this hardworking room a bold new look.

The burnished bronze and copper finishes play beautifully against the blue cabinetry, their warmth mirrored in the veining of the marble sink and the soft texture of the window covering.

The original laundry room was purely utilitarian, offering little in the way of personality or thoughtful design. A single run of cabinets, a side-by-side washer and dryer, and a small sink tucked by the entry door left the space feeling flat and underutilized. To give the room more intention and flow, I reimagined the layout with the sink centered beneath the window, creating an inviting focal point and an efficient L-shaped workspace with generous counter space. By stacking the washer and dryer, we gained room for tall pantry cabinets and deep upper storage that make the most of the home’s high ceilings, all while keeping the space open, balanced, and light.

Soft natural light dances across the tile backsplash and marble sink, revealing the subtle texture and movement within each surface.

THE LAYOUT

A tall pantry cabinet now anchors the cabinet wall by the entry, offering generous, easy-to-reach storage that instantly grounds the space. Above, stacked uppers draw the eye upward, emphasizing the room’s high ceilings and adding a sense of vertical balance. The washer and dryer are neatly enclosed with tailored end panels and a deep upper cabinet that continues along to the back wall, creating a seamless built-in effect. This thoughtful extension carves out a discreet nook in the far corner; a quiet spot designed for air-drying clothes while keeping the view from the doorway clean and uncluttered.

To keep the renovation efficient, the washer and dryer connections remained close to their original location, minimizing plumbing changes. The sink, however, was thoughtfully relocated to the window wall, transforming it into a natural focal point that brings light and balance to the new layout. With crawl space beneath the room, the plumbing shift was a simple one, allowing the reimagined plan to come together effortlessly.

The new base cabinetry enhances both form and function, with a blend of drawers and pull-outs that make daily tasks beautifully organized. Because the homeowners had recently installed new tile flooring, preserving it was a top priority. The contractor was able to patch the area beneath the relocated appliances with precision, leaving the floor perfectly intact and saving on replacement costs. Overhead, a bulky central light fixture was replaced with a recessed can light near the new sink, introducing a subtle, more quiet ceiling that complements the room’s lighter, more streamlined aesthetic.

THE CONFIGURATION

The new L-shaped countertop offers an expansive surface for folding, organizing, and even hand-washing when needed. It transforms the once-utilitarian space into a thoughtfully designed workstation that balances function with elegance. Next to the sink, sleek utility rails introduce a subtle layer of style while providing a practical spot for air-drying delicate pieces. A wood accent shelf above the hanging rod is trimmed with a copper gallery rail that adds both warmth and refinement, offering space for storage or display and lending a touch of sophistication that ties the entire room together.

The back corner transforms into a hardworking station that combines smart storage with refined, purposeful design.

THE BACKSPLASH TILE

For the backsplash, we selected a striking star-and-cross pattern that pairs glossy white crosses with matte gray stars, creating a subtle rhythm of light and shadow across the wall. The interplay of finishes adds depth and movement, drawing the eye up without overwhelming the space. This distinctive tile beautifully complements the soft ivory quartz countertops, bringing texture and contrast to the room’s calm, serene palette. Together, they frame the marble sink in a way that feels balanced and timeless, allowing its natural veining to take center stage while the surrounding materials quietly enhance the overall composition.

Extending the stone into the window wrap and casing introduces a tailored, understated layer of luxury.

Every design element engages in quiet conversation with the next, creating a gentle harmony of color, texture, and form that exudes refined sophistication and understated luxury.

THE FIXTURES

We selected a bridge faucet in a rich oil-rubbed bronze finish, chosen for its ability to complement the custom marble apron-front sink while still standing out as a statement piece. The graceful high arc and traditional lines bring a sense of timeless luxury, creating a focal point that immediately draws the eye upon entering the room. Warm metallic accents throughout, including antique copper knobs, a coordinating gallery rail, and utility bars, echo the faucet’s tone and tie the entire palette together. The result is a space that feels layered, refined, and effortlessly sophisticated.

THE COLORS

The cabinetry is finished in a warm, cheerful blue that brings an inviting energy to the space while striking a perfect contrast against the rich copper and natural wood tones. The color feels both fresh and timeless, grounding the room with character and depth. Surrounding it, the soft interplay of muted whites, ivories, and gentle grays in the tile and countertop creates a serene backdrop that allows the marble sink to take center stage. The combination feels balanced and cohesive, blending warmth and sophistication in equal measure.

The room now feels bright and inviting, its warmth enhanced by a simple recessed light that casts an even, effortless glow.

BEFORE & AFTER SIDE-BY-SIDE BATHROOM COMPARISON

The transformation is nothing short of dramatic, revealing how even the most utilitarian space can be reimagined with both style and purpose. The new laundry room feels thoughtful and inviting, every detail carefully considered to enhance daily living. It now reflects the homeowners’ personality with grace and authenticity, transforming a once-overlooked corner of the home into a space they genuinely enjoy spending time in.

The original layout offered little storage or character, but the reimagined design makes full use of the vertical space and centers a striking sink beneath the window, creating both function and charm.

THE DESIGN FINISHES

The palette unfolds in a serene balance of color and texture, where a romantic blue-green anchors the space and plays gracefully against tones of copper, cream, and warm wood. Together, these hues create a layered harmony that feels both inviting and refined, setting the stage for the room’s thoughtful mix of materials and finishes.

Two streamlined utility rails transform the return wall into a thoughtful detail that balances utility with elevated design.

THE CABINETRY

The cabinetry features classic Shaker-style doors paired with European-style boxes and full overlay doors, a combination that feels both tailored and lasting. The blue-green finish introduces a contemporary edge, its tone shifting gently with the light to reveal subtle layers of warmth and depth throughout the day. The painted surface brings a sense of calm and freshness, allowing the craftsmanship to quietly shine. Just inside the entry, a floor-to-ceiling linen cabinet anchors the space with graceful proportion and provides generous storage, blending utility with an architectural sense of presence.

All of the finishes harmonize together to create a timeless oasis for laundry

METALS

The bridge faucet, rendered in a deep antique oil rubbed bronze, adds an element of heritage and refined craftsmanship. Its surface catches the light in warm, delicate glints that echo the copper cabinet knobs nearby, creating a gentle dialogue between the two metals. The pairing feels intentional and elegant, infusing the space with a sense of warmth and sophistication that enriches the overall palette. It’s a finish that feels both classic and contemporary, grounding the design in understated luxury.

NATURAL STONE

At the heart of the room stands a breathtaking Calacatta Viola marble sink, hewn from a single block of stone and hand-carved by artisans in Turkey. Its surface unfurls with deep plum and smoke-gray veining, each line of color a delicate brushstroke that feels both artful and organic. The matte ivory quartz countertop frames it with quiet grace, enhancing the marble’s natural beauty without competing for attention. Together, they form a composition of contrast and calm, creating a sense of balance that anchors the space and defines its mood. From this singular piece, the entire palette emerged, shaping the textures and finishes that now flow in gentle harmony around it.

A bundle of stone slabs rests in quiet anticipation, awaiting the artisan’s hand to shape them into future works of functional art. This is the bundle the laundry sink was made from.

WOOD

A stained alder shelf extends across the wall, its rich grain bringing warmth and texture to the room. Beneath it, coordinating wooden hangers echo the natural tones of the marble sink and the soft wood of the window’s roller shade. Together, these details create a gentle rhythm of warmth that balances the room’s cooler tones, resulting in a composition that feels inviting, refined, and elegantly resolved.

Designing this laundry room was about more than improving function. It was about creating a space that feels calm, grounded, and reflective of the homeowners’ lifestyle. Watching it evolve from a purely practical room into a thoughtfully designed retreat was deeply rewarding and a beautiful reminder of how intentional design can truly transform the way we live.
