Gray Magazine put on an interior design tour around the greater Seattle area on Saturday, June 8th that featured 8 beautiful interiors. The tour took place on my birthday weekend, so I invited my friend and design assistant Christin to accompany me. The weather turned out to be gorgeous, however it was the first hot day of summer which meant tons of additional traffic around Seattle and we were unable to visit all of the sites. Due to protecting the privacy of the homeowners, the addresses were not released until the day before the tour. This made it challenging to plan a convenient route and our only complaint was that the locations were very spread out and visiting all within the show window felt rushed. The downtown locations did not have parking, so we had to skip some of those after circling the area on a busy Saturday. We still had a great time with the sites we were able to visit and got a lot of great ideas for future projects. We prioritized the sites by which designs looked most exciting to us and these were our favorites.
DESIGN STUDIO
This boutique design studio of Michelle Dirkse Interior Design features their own line of bold textiles and wallpaper. Their showroom is functional and beautiful with a very bold entry featuring an oversize tutu sofa.
KIRKLAND HOUSE
Designed by Harmony Weihs of designHARMONY, her personal residence in Kirkland, WA is full of inspiring design elements. This was our favorite house on the tour. It was thoughtfully laid out, felt very cohesive and had lots of unexpected features. It seamlessly blends classic design styles with whimsical touches.
I loved the sitting room the most with the vaulted ceiling, wood beams and a floor to ceiling face-frame lit bookcase feature wall. Harmony styled the shelves to perfection, grouping books by topics and styling sections like a retail store. She even faced out board games and certain books to make each section feel like its own special vignette. The stained-glass windows are bold and compliment the room perfectly.
The arched details repeated throughout the house and into the kitchen are really beautiful. The pantry is gorgeous and moody, repeating the face frame lit shelving. The matching wood lid canisters is something to aspire to. I especially love the separate coffee bar area which is a feature I love to add to kitchens if space is available. The red range is an unexpected design touch in an otherwise traditional room.
The powder room is gorgeous with deep blue wainscoting. Instead of wallpaper, the walls are covered with completed puzzles that have been clear coated. The powder vanity is a gorgeous walnut colored piece of furniture that ties in perfectly with the beams, mantel and walnut island.
WEST SEATTLE HOUSE
The 1906 reimagined historic house in West Seattle was worth making the drive. Designed by Judith Wright Design, she stayed true to the period of the home while adding modern conveniences such as a toe kick pull out with dog bowls and an integrated refrigerator. With classic millwork details and gorgeous wallpaper, this house is elegant and sophisticated. I loved the leaded glass inserts in the kitchen. The cabinet color is a powdery blue which feels very unique yet timeless. I really like that plumbing and light fixtures stay true to the style of the home.
The marble accents in the bathrooms pair beautifully with the brass fixtures. The wallpaper throughout is very beautiful and ties all the colors together.
