How To Style With Throw Pillows Without Breaking the Bank

Throw pillows are a great way to bring color and texture into a room. They can completely change the look and feel of a room if they are updated periodically with the seasons or for holidays.

Pillows at department stores while beautiful can be very expensive. If you need to buy 5-10 pillows for a refresh, they can really start to add up. Bargain stores like Home Goods or Ross sometimes have a nice selection but you never know what they will have in stock or if they will have enough of the style you like. One of my favorite things to do instead of replacing entire pillows is keep standard pillow inserts and rotate pillow covers. This makes it a lot easier to store (I use pants hangers in a small section of my closet).

I recently found a shop on Etsy that I am currently obsessed with that is woman-owned and operated by a talented seamstress that puts together high-quality pillow covers in fashion forward pre-designed color combinations that are beautifully coordinated. These are very high quality and a gorgeous addition to your home decor.

If you are looking for something a little more basic, Amazon is a great source for home decor when you’re on a budget! A lot of people might not think to shop there for home decor, but it’s a great source for inexpensive items you can get quickly. I personally have several different colors that I use for staging and don’t have to worry about getting ruined.

I really like these inexpensive Velvet Pillow Covers from Amazon that I have in several different colors – Eggplant Purple, Army Green and Jam. These are relatively thin but they are good quality. I’ve washed my covers several times and they still look great. Obviously they are not as thick or durable as the more expensive counterparts. However, for the price, they are well worth it! I’ve used them to style several homes that I’ve flipped as well as in my own home.

Army Green Velvet Pillows and Graphic Pillows From Amazon used to style a staged home for sale.

I love styling with black and white with neutral tones and mixing with a pop of color or metal. These graphic pillow covers come in a 4-pack and are great to mix with solid color pillows. There a lot of other styles available, but I love that this one has a variety of common patterns.
